Catch the vision for a reliable Bible translation in every language, a Bible in every hand!
Bibles International is the Bible society of Baptist Mid Missions. Organized in 1981 with headquarters in Grand Rapids, Michigan, BI has other offices and workers in 17 countries.
BI exists because approximately 4,000 of the nearly 7,000 language groups in the world have no portion of the Scripture. This represents more than 500 million people who have no personal access to God's written word in their language.
In 2018, there are still significant language groups* in the world with no portion of Scripture! And missions cannot proceed without it - God’s Word is still the one essential tool in the missionary and mission work tool kit. “Now faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.”
But I would also tell you that we are smack in the middle of the golden age in Bible translation work - technology, travel and linguistic advances have allowed translation work to be more efficient than ever before. Though it is still an extensive, expensive, labor-intensive task, every completed translation opens new doors for the Gospel! I really do think it’s exciting for churches and mission programs to be able to participate in a project like this – where you can have direct participation in a Bible translation project, watch the project come to completion, and then witness the reception of the text as the people read God’s Word in their heart language for the first time!
* Tracking and identification of distinct language groups is somewhat fluid, but recent statistics indicate that there are more than 4500 language groups that do not have a single verse of Scripture in their heart language.
